Lost? Create your own path.
This is for those who don’t know how to create your own path.
If you have just graduated or entering college, I’m talking straight to you. This is the prime time for you to find a path for your own. You might not know where to start. That’s good. It’s okay to be uncertain about your future when you have just graduated from school. School life was easy. It’s nothing compared to real life.
You should start exploring the world and see what interests you. The world, unlike your classroom, is full of mystery, opportunities, and problems. Your job is to be a useful solution to at least one problem.
First, if you haven’t, you should find out what your hobbies are, and figure out if you want to turn that hobby into a career. If so, watch this in-depth video where I share what I did to turn my hobby into a career.
If you want to keep your hobbies and your work separate, which is understandable, then you should find out what you want to work on, and learn the necessary skills.
The first skill you should learn is to learn the English language. Let me explain why. There are tons and tons of FREE English content on the internet where you can learn literally any skills that you can think of.
So if you can just understand English language, you open up your world to unlimited possibilities. You can get yourself exposed to a plethora of knowledge that you otherwise wouldn’t have access to, because of the language barrier. That’s why you need to learn English skills first.
You don’t even need really advanced English skills. Just enough listening skills will get you to a lot of places. The fact that you know English, and learn from English video contents, gives you such a big advantage over those who do not know English and can’t consume English language.
I know this for a fact because this is what happened to me. I learned from English YouTubers for over a decade. Most of my accumulated knowledge is from Youtube and not from school or books. There simply isn’t enough knowledge to learn in the Burmese language. Seriously, it’s not even comparable at all.
People will say Chinese is more spoken language globally. If I have to give you an advice, learn English as opposed to Chinese. There’s more open-source knowledge there. In my opinion, nothing beats English in terms of the volume of free education that you can reach via the internet.
You might think of the old advice saying that You should read books to acquire knowledge. Well, what if I tell you, you don’t have to read books either if you know how to learn from Youtube. Ever since I’ve graduated from college 7 years ago, I’ve read like 5 books. But there isn’t a day I don’t learn something from watching Youtube videos. Because I surround myself with good YouTube channels, I am always learning about things I like. And that’s the quickest and cheapest way to gain knowledge as well as skills that you will need in your future careers.
YouTube is my new Youniversity that I can never graduate from. It’s a never-ending space for learning. I will make a list of my favorite Youtubers in the next article.
There is one dark side of Youtube though. The addiction. You must learn to control yourself to not fall into the Youtube algorithm rabbit hole and waste lots of time scrolling through meme videos & shorts. I’ll write more about Habits for Youtube in a different article too, so don’t forget to subscribe!
SPONSORED segment : If you want to learn from Youtube, you might want to get a Youtube Premium account to help you minimize distractions from the ads. You can buy Youtube premium from iKey for cheap. It’s totally worth it IMO. I’ve been using for over a year and I don’t regret one bit. Moreover, at iKey, you can also buy Photoshop & Lightroom softwares and pluggin, as well as licensed versions if you want to use PS AI to edit your photos. Hopefully, this article urges you to start learning English language. Once you start learning from Youtube for free, you will start gaining knowledge at an exponential rate. So whenever you have free time, learn a bit of English. This is my best advice for those graduating from high school or college and are feeling lost about their future.
